At Shizusan, Bengaluru the design is horizontal with a restaurant, sushi bar and dim sums studio inside and Kyoto jazz bar inspired space on the outside.
My visit to the recently opened restaurant cum bar Shizusan, that specialises in Pan Asian street & homestyle delicacies, reminded me about my visit to Thailand a few years ago. With limited days to spend there, leisure dining was not an option and we often grabbed a bite at the shophouse style bustling food joints. Here you just grab a seat at the counter or a table if your lucky, dig in and get out!
Back to Namma Bangalore, here’s a more calm and spacious shophouse style restaurant, Shizusan which opened its doors at Phoenix Marketcity Whitefield Bengaluru after it garnered great popularity in Pune and Mumbai. Here, you can take a culinary trip across China, Japan, Burma, Vietnam, Korea, Philippines, Malaysia and Thailand. A great place for all those who love their pork & beef.
Ambience: Airy and spacious, Shizusan’s dining space is defined by a gorgeous Tree of Life that plays a pivotal role and a pretty wall mural capturing a natural landscape in mood lighting. The Sushi bar and Dimsum studio are also focal points in the space. Move outside and the open air bar zone is great for evening, inspired by the streets of Kyoto and New Orleans where Jazz bars spill onto the cobblestone streets.
What We Ate & Loved: Poached Chicken Dumplings, Black Bean Yaki Udon, Asian Watermelon Salad (which could have been brilliant with less dressing)
A great place for sushi, Dim Sums including the famed Xiao Long Baos or Soup Dumplings, Gyozas, Har Gaos and Korean Mandoos. Fresh salads like the unique Bitter Melon & Shrimp from the streets of Hanoi; curries like the Massaman, Rendang and Laksa; staples like Black Pepper Lobster, Cashew Chicken, Yakiniku Beef, Jap-Korean Buri-Bop, Dan Dan Mian Noodles, Hibachi Rice, Singaporean Mai Fun and Hainanese Chicken Rice too.
Well, its definitely a place for great food… I suggest stick to it. However, you could try a selection Sake, Japanese Whiskeys and Asian Cocktail Beer, Iced Coffees and Coolers.
To make sure Bengaluru has its share of exclusive delicacies, Chef Paul has introduced One Bowl Lunches like Pho, Ramen, Donburi, Khow Suey, etc, that are satiating, quick and pocket friendly. Other new dishes include to be found only in the Bengaluru menu include Phuket’s Som Tam (Raw Papaya Salad), Yam Neua (Thai Beef Salad), Bo La Lot (Betel Leaf Wrapped Beef), Pan Roasted Pork Ribs, Beef & Broccoli, Thai Pork & Bamboo Shoot and Turnip Cake.
